Thank you for caring about the needs of the downtrodden and truly oppressed people of Haiti. Even in the best of times, Haiti is an economically challenged country, environmentally ravaged by years of out of control harvesting of its natural resources, and a land where basic needs like food and clean water are a daily struggle. The 2010 earthquake has amplified the pain and suffering to a level seen only a few times in our human history. The misery of the masses is compounded by substandard medical care, lack of shelter, and no hope for adequate employment.
Even the healthiest of Haitians will be hard pressed to survive the next several years while the country rebuilds. The thousands of amputees and severely injured are relegated to a near certain "death sentence" if they do not receive mental and physical therapy, as well as prosthesis' and physical training to regain mobility. HopeforHaitiHealing.org is a website representing a ministry outreach of the First United Methodist Church of Auburndale, Florida. Led by Michael Wnek, it has successfully ministered to thousands by delivering food, water, juice and foodstuffs to the hardest hit quake areas. At the same time, this ministry has delivered medical supplies, including antibiotics, trauma care products from suture kits to wound dressings, and external fixators. All supplies have been purchased with donated funds or rounded up from benevolent physicians by support staff like Paul Sifton, and outside resources like John Alex of the United Aid Foundation.
Our current focus is relieving hunger, thirst and pain to those most severely injured, especially amputees languishing in refugee camps. You can help in the restoration of body, mind and souls of our most beleagured brothers and sisters by donating to this cause.
